The District executive is responsible for the overall growth, extension, quality, program enhancement, and supervision of the Scouting program within a specified geographical area. The district executive achieves this through the identification, cultivation, recruitment, and guidance of a corps of volunteers whose purpose is to support, train, and motivate adult volunteer leaders who deliver the Scouting program. Public relations and fundraising administration are vital additional functions.

Job Summary
Serves as the executive manager of a geographic territory within a local BSA council designated as a district. Responsible for the effective organization, operation and promotion of the council program within the district, and responsible for the achievement of district objectives, including measurable goals. Serves as a member of the district's cabinet, gives staff guidance to the cultivating, recruiting, training and inspiring of volunteer personnel so that their efforts strengthen and extend the Scouting program offered by chartered organizations and related units.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Must live in or be willing to relocate to Lake County Florida
  • Give leadership to all district volunteer personnel in establishing a plan of action which will result in the district meeting its objectives and goals.
  • Regular communication with supervisor sees that the Field Director is kept fully informed on current conditions in district.
  • In cooperation with the District Volunteer Chairman and District Committee, recruit and train all personnel in order that all volunteer committees will function effectively.
  • Provide service to scouting units through volunteer commissioners, regular roundtable meetings, training events and activities.
  • In cooperation with the Finance Chairman, recruit leadership for the district fundraising campaigns to raise the district's share of the council's finance goal.
  • Make annual visits to the head of each chartered organization that uses the scouting programs to review quality of program and unit leadership. As needed, visit the head of prospective organizations that may consider using the Scouting program.
  • Initiate and manage a plan of action to organize new units and reorganize weak for former scouting units in order that all youth will be given the opportunity to experience and enjoy Scouting's programs.
  • Promote participation in district and council events, activities, and summer camps in order that youth members will enjoy the most effective Scouting experience possible.

  • Skills / Requirements
  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to build confidence, loyalty, team spirit, and a positive attitude with both volunteers and staff associates
  • Ability to plan time effectively
  • Ability to foster positive relations with individuals and groups in the community
  • Ability to harness available resources and to release the motivation within people to achieve desired goals and objections
