Blog Post: Summer jobs and first-time jobs don't mean lower standards...

posted Monday, May 21, 2007 11:20 AM

With summer upon us, many teens and college students are out seeking summer jobs--for many of them, their first job.  If you are included in this great group of job seekers, here's some tips to help you get and keep a great summer job:
  • Don't lower your standards (the employers aren't)--ensure you have an updated resume and dress professionally for all job fairs and interviews.  Just because it is a summer job or an entry-level part-time job doesn't mean that it should be taken any less seriously!
  • Be realistic in your job expectations--get a clear understanding of the work shifts, pay rate and job expectations so you will not be frustrated later.
  • Don't call in or arrive late--this not only impacts your reputation at work, but also negatively impacts your team and the customers.
